Mark Vander Vinne

Mark Vander Vinne’s connection to the landscape is at the heart of his work. Through painting, he studies and experiences the landscape, responding to what he sees and feels. Sometimes that response is the painting itself; other times, the painting becomes a way to explore something more personal.

Mark creates boldly quiet paintings that begin with direct observation of the landscape. His plein air work is an opportunity to study the landscape directly—observing how light and color behave while responding to the character and feeling of a place. In the studio, those observations can become a starting point for exploring ideas through shape, color, and composition, taking the painting somewhere beyond the original experience.

Mark is an award-winning landscape painter based in Northwest Indiana. He graduated from the American Academy of Art and continued his education through workshops with nationally recognized artists. His work has been featured in national exhibitions and plein air events and is held in private collections throughout the country.
