David’s introduction to the glass art world came as a result of a midlife desire for a career change. After decades as a successful barber and salon owner, he yearned for a different creative outlet. He took classes in stained glass and created custom residential installations. Seeking to improve his design ability, he took private colored pencil drawing lessons for a year. At the end of that year, he left stained glass behind in search of greater detail in glass art. He encountered fused glass artworks online that used colored crushed glass, known as frit, to create painterly details in kiln-formed glass. He experimented with this technique, and had some good results. A breakthrough came when he traveled to Italy and took an in-depth work shop with a master in this art form. His glass work is a blend of acquired and self taught skills.

His glass landscapes are composed of multiple layers of clear sheet glass, colored frit, and glass enamels. They require around 10 kiln firings each. The result is a 3D image in thick glass. They are mounted on glass bases and displayed with LED back lighting.
