Anne Blackburn
An appreciation for nature leads Potter Anne Blackburn in a creative direction with the use of shape, color and design. In each unique compilation of slab-built pottery you can see hints of the forest and the sea. Affectionately dubbed “the queen of texture”, Anne’s pieces are covered in intricate textures made by manipulating not only natural resources such as nut shells, leaves and her favorite lava rock but also unconventional texture making tools such as ravioli cutters, placemats and antique linens. “I don’t believe pottery has to be functional to be appreciated” says Anne when asked “what is this for?” by customers. Her creations are sculptural in nature and fascinating to the eye with a hint of purpose when necessary. A BA degree in Fine Art from St. Mary’s College lead Anne down a creative path in life, concentrating on pottery for the past decade or so. She enjoys teaching a hand-building class At the Elkhart Art League while pursuing her own eclectic style of pottery.
